About Us
In the final months of 2016, when the ex-madrigal community became aware that Madrigal Group was drawing to its close after 29 wonderful years, a campaign led by Ammar Haque and James Buadhach Gerrard erupted to draw alumni together to sing farewell to its beloved musical director Roger Creed.
In December of 2016, with only one rehearsal under its collective belt, a motley group of Madrigal alumni sung a fond and fitting farewell to a teacher who had taught them much more than crotchets and semi-quavers over more than a generation. Conducted by a member of the very first Madrigal Group, Katie Wardrobe (nee Argyle), the choir sang The Carnival is Over to “Rog” who sat alongside his wife Helen in delighted disbelief. A small group then approached Roger about creating an alumni choir to continue the singing.
And so the Grammarian Singers was born. The group meets every Monday of school term at Wheelers Hill campus to rehearse at 8pm and covers a wide repertoire. Supported by the CGA, the group has regular performances within the school calendar. It seems you are indeed part of the school for the rest of your life.
