Grammarian Singers Report – November 2018
The Grammarian Singers have continued to have an exciting year. After a musically challenging and triumphant sacred music program for the winter concert, the ensemble well and truly welcomed in spring with an action packed and high energy Showtime concert, featuring well known Broadway musical numbers from shows including West Side Story, Guys and Dolls, Cabaret and Les Miserables. An entertaining and fun-filled night for singers and audience alike, Broadway musicals are likely to be a recurring theme in the Grammarian Singers calendar.
Behind the scenes, the committee has been spending time planning the choir’s future as it has become clear there is commitment from the group, the CGA community and from our audience for us to keep singing. Having recorded the Showtime concert (with special thanks to videographer Jesse Marlow) the Singers are preparing a cache of recorded tracks and are working to create a choir website. We hope to go live early in 2019. The 2019 year will also see the choir expand its rehearsal schedule to include weekend workshops on musical and vocal techniques under the guidance of musical director Roger Creed.
The Grammarian Singers were proud to be featured at the 2018 Speech Night as part of a focus on community. The following video was made for the event.
For now, the ensemble is busily working on its Christmas concert. A wonderful selection of traditional, Australian and classic celebrations of Christmas will be on show. The choir is especially excited to be singing original music written by our beloved Julie Argyle Cross. In a concert for music lovers, carol devotees and children, the Singers hope to share the magic of the season with you all at 7.30pm on 5 December at Wheelers Hill Campus.
